Implementing Hollywood Regency into Your Home

Room by Kelly Wearstler, master of this style.

I have had a couple of Formspring questions about Hollywood Regency and I thought I might as well do a post about incorporating the look into your own home.

"The wonderful fabrics, fringe on lampshades, chandeliers with crystals — Hollywood Regency style is about glamour, but so much is found in the wonderful details," -Barclay Butera

Some keys to establishing to the style in your home:

Chair by Coco Chanel

Black lacquer adds a sense of exotic and expensive luxury.

Asian-theme/chinoiserie elements
You can subtly incorporate chinoiserie elements or you can go big with them!  If you just want a little splash then buy a bamboo mirror, chairs or small desk and paint it some glossy color.  If you are looking to make more of an impact wallpaper a wall or room in a fun chinoiserie print.  Ebay has some great ones.

Rich upholstery and drapery fabrics
silks, velvet, mohair, anything with luxe texture and shine. Also add texture with nail heads and piping. Don't forget some great animal prints!

Jonathan Adler-esque ceramics and accessories

I picked up these greyhounds at Home Goods for $5 each!  You can also buy almost any little figure and spray paint it.

Mirrors and mirrored furniture

Any mirrored accent really pumps up the glam-feeling of your room.

Strong Color Contrast
White and black oozes luxury, add pops of red, fuchsia, yellow or any other bold color.

If you love this glamouurs style but maybe don't want to do a whole room in it then here are a few suggestions:

Stick with a more nuetral color scheme but do add bits and pieces of the style into your home. You could use some mirrored furniture, a crystal chandelier, or a funky print.  Pair these exciting elements with a nuetral slipcovered chair or sofa.  Let your wall color remain more neutral while adding a saturated and lush fabric for your draperies.  Keep it more simple while implementing exciting accessories.

I hope this helps! If anyone else has any great tips for getting that Hollywood-Regency  feel in your home please share!
